Canoeing in Rogen.

Canoeing in Rogen

A memory for life! The Rogen nature reserve is a maze of small and large lakes between long winding ridges surrounded by majestetic mountains. The landscape is a result of the ice age which created the unique rogen moraine.

Between the ridges the water systems allows paddlers to discover beautiful ponds, smaller lakes and rivers. The relative easy access to wilderness has made Rogen to a very popular area for outdoorpeople who enjoys the vast isolated area and the non crowded nature – without spending a fortune and to many miles travelling.

The barren ground is covered by scattered rocks and logs with a long history. The pineforest is between 500 – 1000 years old on many places and the old dry logs make the landscape something extra. Because of the climate and harsh terrain the flora is not rich, but the species are often rare. The fauna live and thrive because of the watersystems of Rogen; like the reindeer, moose, lynx, bear, beaver, otter and more. During your canoetrip you might spot ospreys, black-throated divers, ducks and waders.

Despite the word “wilderness” man has used this area since stone age. There are traces of hunting and catching in ancient times. The sami domestication of reindeer followed, and then came the mountain farming, haying in the outfields, forestry, the charring of wood and timber floating. In other words – this is not untouched wilderness even if the impression tells that.

The fishing in Rogen and Femundsmarka have you probably heard about before, but we still want to promote the chances to catch large large fish; Rogen has some of the biggest graylings and brown trout in Scandinavia! Fishermen catch those yearly on a fly rod, but spinning fishermen has also a good chance of cathing nice perch or big pike.

Rogen and Femundsmarka could be discovered in a few days or many weeks; free of choice! The different types of landscape and service allows both beginners with small experience of wildlife and professionals with years of experience. The routes where to paddle can be made in many different ways, long or short, hard or medium easy. We recommend that you are quite fit and make a trip after your experience. First timers should absolutely think twice before they book a trip ending in Norway… Something for sure is that everyone canoeing in Rogen will have something to tell the grandchildren!

The season for canoeing in Rogen last from the 15 of june to the 15 of September. All trips must be booked before arrival. We always provide shuttle, information, support, canoes, pfd:s and paddles for two persons in the price which is counted on 7 days.

All the trips start at 12.00 for information at Topsport in Funäsdalen. This briefing takes approximately 30 minutes and gives you good knowledge how to do and how to not do. After the information we transport you to your startpoint; käringsjövallen or käringssjön.
