The combination of rugged mountain scenery, open landscapes and endless gravel trails makes Funäsfjällen a natural destination for anyone who loves gravel biking. A network of winding gravel roads connects the villages of Ramundberget, Bruksvallarna, Funäsdalen, Tänndalen and Tännäs. The scenery is varied: one moment you are cycling along winding forest roads among mountain birches and streams, and the next you are greeted by breathtaking views across the bare mountain plateau.
With Ramundberget as your starting point, you can take longer or shorter day trips to Flatruet, Djupdalsvallens våffelstuga or musk ox country – Rogens naturreservat. The area offers 10 unique gravel rides that can be combined into full-day adventures. Perhaps you’ll find a favourite of your own?

Mittåkläppsvägen
A moderately long yet challenging tour. Mittåkläppsvägen features a substantial climb to the foot of Mittåkläppen, where you’ll be rewarded with both stunning views and waffles from Djupdalsvallens våffelstuga.
The road is more than just a scenic gravel ride. It tells a story of hard work and life in the mountains. Dug entirely by hand, it began as a simple track leading to the village’s summer pastures. In 1924, the villagers decided to build a shared road, with every household contributing its share of labour. The road was completed in the 1950s, after nearly 30 years of work.
Today, you’ll cycle through a landscape of mountain farms and sweeping mountain views. From the highest point, you can see the area’s iconic peaks: Helags, Sylarna, Skarsfjället and Mittåkläppen.
If you choose to start in Ramundberget, the loop is approximately 37 km.
Flatruetvägen
Sweden's highest road
Ride gravel on Sweden’s highest road – Flatruet, 975 metres above sea level. Here, you’ll cycle across the open mountain plateau through spectacular alpine scenery.
The road runs between Mittådalen and Ljungdalen. If you're feeling strong, you can cycle from Ramundberget to Ljungdalen and back (around 120 km). In Ljungdalen, you'll find both a café and a pizzeria—perfect for refuelling.
The views of Helags from Flatruet are spectacular. The area is also used as summer grazing land by reindeer from Mittådalen Sámi community, so please cycle with care.
Vivallslänken + Röstberget Gravel
The first part of the route follows the roller-ski track towards Bruksvallarna. From there, the ride continues along undulating gravel roads through a historic mining landscape. The cycling is fairly easy, but expect a few substantial climbs – with rewarding views from the top.
Starting in Funäsdalen, this scenic gravel ride offers plenty of places to stop for a coffee and opportunities to take a refreshing dip. Leafy country roads alternate with charming narrow gravel roads and easy forest trails. In Ljusnedal, a short detour takes you to the historic ironworks area, where you can enjoy a well-earned break with something tasty to eat or drink.
The round trip to Ramundberget is just over 50 kilometres.
